A Hike to the Sacro Monte

It is early Monday morning and the streets are quiet.

While Potts is teaching, I take a lone walk... 

from the village...

up the stone steps....

to the chapel on the hill...

Then I hike further...

to the cemetery.

At the top of the hill...

Is the Sacred Mountain of Orta -- a sanctuary consisting of twenty small chapels, the creation of which began in 1583...

with frescos...

and sculptures depicting the life of Saint Fancis of Assisi.

It is wonderfully peaceful here.
