Our Tuscan Home Away from Home

Pieve A Salti is an actual working farm and bed and breakfast located near Siena. The property extends over 700 acres of rolling hills, olive orchards, fruit orchards, and grain crops all of which are used in the meals they prepare.
We are sprinkled over the estate in refurbished farm houses here and there.
This is our home for the week.

Breakfast includes hot fresh croissants, meats, and cheeses, fresh fruit, wonderful yogurt, fruit jams and granola.

I found a favorite spot to sit and read while Randy helped with workshops.

Once again, I ventured out with Randy's camera to get a few "up close and personal" shots of the farm.

I discovered an old abandoned chapel down the dirt road from our place.

Each evening we travel a mile down the road for a Tuscan dinner experience lasting well over two hours. The meals are in five courses and are incredible! Tonight we had a taste of real truffle sauce on the veal. We're not talking chocolates here, but the strong-smelling underground fungus that looks somewhat like a irregular rough-skinned potato. Truffles are considered a delicacy and are found in the broad-leaved woodlands of France and Italy, with the aid of trained dogs or pigs. I was curious about the cost and found them on the internet for $160 for one 1.5 ounce piece!
