An Autumn Family Tradition

Spudnuts!

Combine and cool to lukewarm:

2 cups scalded milk
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup mashed potatoes
1 and 1/2 tsp. salt

Add 1 and 1/2 Tablespoons yeast softened in 1/3 cup water. Add 3 eggs slightly beaten. Add 8 to 9 cups flour, enough to make a soft pliable dough. Let rise to double in bulk. Roll out 1/2" thick and cut. Place on a floured towel or board. Let rise and cook in vegetable oil heated to 375 degrees. Makes about 4 dozen.

GLAZE: 1/2 cup water, 3 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp. vanilla
